The number of computer units sold around the world continues to increase as the population increases. That is also why hard drive data recovery services have become very common. As more computers function, they are also prone to breakdown. But despite the prevalence of computer crashes, so many people all over the world still do not understand how data recovery works.
1. Look for the real experts. Some companies can easily lay claim that they are experts at doing everything, including the retrievable of information from a crashed hard drive. But the truth is, they just have some idea but they are not experts. If you bring your computer to them, they will most likely damage it more. And then they will just tell you that your computer is so bummed already that recovery is impossible. The sadder part is, you believe them and your computer files are lost forever.
2. The free phone or online analyses are bluffs. A recovery expert will need physically assess the hard drive before they can actually tell you what is wrong, the extent of the work that he is going to do on it, and how much you are going to pay. If you just describe what happened on the phone or through a chat support, the only thing that the technician will tell you is that your hard drive crashed and you need recovery services.
3. Variable repair and recovery costs. The process of data recovery does not just entail fishing the files out of an aquarium. There will be instances that the technician will have to repair the drive first before extraction can be done. That is why at first glance, they could not give you an exact amount about the costs. The best that they can do is to give you an estimate as to the duration of the extraction, the parts needed and how much you are going to pay.
4. Variable success rate. While recovery is possible in most cases, there will be times that the hard drive is too damaged and extraction becomes impossible. Or the technician is not that well versed in what he is doing so he fails to identify and correct the problem. So if a company claims that they have a 100% success rate, ask them how many customers they have served so far.
5. Fast service. The process of data recovery can last anywhere from a day to a few weeks depending on the extent of the damage and the kinds of files that need to be retrieved. While the company can boast of efficient service, they cannot guarantee a quick turnaround because it really depends on the situation. At the very least, you are just guaranteed that they will work on your unit as soon as you submit it to them.
