You may have heard of hard drive data recovery but have never experienced it yourself. Then good for you, that means your hard drive has not crashed yet or you have already bought a replacement before it could happen to you. But for those who have had their trusted hard drives crash on them, data recovery is imperative.
Since more people are opting to store their data in the digital format, this only means that more computers are at risk of crashing and also more people are at risk of losing their data when a hard drive failure happens. Photos and videos are a good example. In the past, people go to photo labs to have their photographs printed on paper. But now, digital photographs are merely stored in the hard drive and uploaded on social networking sites. While there are also advantages to digital storage, the biggest disadvantage is the risk of losing them when a failure happens.
While there are so many reasons why a hard drive fails, there is just only result. And that is data loss. The good thing is, there is still hope for your data to be recovered, whether it is a single unit of computer in your house or many specialized computing systems in big corporations. Now, here are your choices for retrieving lost data due to a hard drive failure.
The Software Recovery. This requires the use of data recovery software that you can download from the internet. You can first try using those free to download software. But if not, you can also purchase other kinds of software with more features because they can also perform better and correct more problems. However, you can only use this if your drive is still accessible. The software will scan the hard drive, map out your files and then identify those that are permanently destroyed and those files that can be still be retrieved and restored.
The Offline Recovery. You can do this effectively if you have some knowledge about tinkering with computer hardware. If you have another computer unit available, you can attach the corrupted hard drive to become a secondary drive to the first unit. Through this physical connection, you can then transfer all your files to the first drive. Just make sure that your first drive has enough disk space to accommodate the files from the corrupted computer. In case your first computer runs out of space, you can install the failing hard drive into an external case. Then extract the remaining files through a USB or a fire wire connection.
The Professional Data Recovery. There are just damages that could not be helped with software or offline recovery. And this is especially applicable to those who do not know how to handle computer hardware. So if your situation falls in this third category you have to bring your hard drive to a data recovery service center. These professionals are trained to recover data. They have the right knowledge, experience, and tools needed to extract your files from your hard drive. Additionally, they have what they call a “clean room” where they do the extraction.
You have three choices of data recovery. But still you best bet is to back up your files regularly so that if ever, you only need to retrieve a few files.
