Despite getting a computer with the highest specs, we always encounter the same problem after some time–computer speed slowing down. These tips are nothing really knew and technical, but we just forget to do them. May this checklist remind you.
1. Run only the programs that you need. It is not unlikely to spot check on someone using his computer and you will see several programs running. And if they have a browser open, it is most likely that many tabs are open. That is just like my own laptop. The usual programs that are open are Adobe Photoshop (with several files opened), Microsoft Word (with several docs opened), and Firefox Mozilla (with about 20 sites opened). And sometimes, Yahoo messenger, Corel Draw, Microsoft Excel, Notepad, and Calculator are also open. And then I lament that my computer is so slow. My husband has to remind me to close some apps.
2. Delete unnecessary programs. When you buy a unit (whether it is a desktop or a laptop), it is already pre-installed with some programs. But sometimes, there are programs there that you do not really need but they run upon start up. These slow down your computer’s processor. Check your control panel for these programs and then uninstall them. Just make sure that no other programs are relying on it otherwise, the other software will get corrupted and you will have to re-install the whole thing.
3. Basic internet browsing. When you surf the net, you use browsers like Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Google Chrome. You can browse the net with just the basic functions but sometimes, it will give you suggestions what to use. If you keep on saying okay to these things, they will just add up to the usage on your processor.
4. Time virus scans. A 24-hour virus scan is really good protection, but if it is on all the time, it can seriously slow down your computer. If you work at the office, you can time your virus scans and updates during your break time so that your work is not hindered.
5. Upgrade your hardware. If your computer is still not performing well after doing everything listed above, then maybe it is time for you to upgrade your hardware. You need to install additional random access memory or RAM to your computer. Just ask your computer store about this.
These five simple tips will seriously help make your computer perform its processes faster.
