Hard drive crashes are inevitable and that is why you need to learn how to use hard drive data recovery software. In the past, we could rely in our computers to work hard for us for a long time but now, more sooner than later, our hard drive crashes we are left in the dark what to do if we do not know any emergency measures on what to do with our computers. While our computers are no longer as long lasting as before, what we can be thankful for now is that there are already a lot of data recovery software brands that we can use to restore our files.
Here are some of the things to do when you need to recover data during a crash.
1. Be prepared. Purchase your data recovery software before the hard drive encounters a problem. Immediately install the protection and security options available to you. A good recovery software will create a backup of the drive’s directory so that you can use it to quickly recover the structure of the files in case a problem happens.
2. Run routine diagnostic tests on your computer. If you are using your computer every day, then at the very least run those read and write tests once every two weeks. This will check if the software can read through all sectors on the hard drive. Also check the disk controller and run a surface scan to check the bad disk sectors. Since the later test takes some time to finish, you can do this when you have free time. And don’t say that you don’t always have time. At least make time for it once a month. Additionally, run the volume and file performance maintenance tests as these will be able to tell you that your data are or aren’t damaged. Sometimes, you can just check the “repair files” option because it will let you know of the damages. You can then just fix the damages without having to go through data recovery.
3. Optimize your hard drive. You have to understand how the computer works. When you save a file, the data is being broken down into smaller chunks and are “written” on whatever available space that the computer locates. So these data parts get separated. When you optimize your drive, it will group together the data chunks and your computer will work more efficiently.
4. When your hard drive crashes, run the data recovery software. If the protection files are in place, the software will just restore the files onto your disk. The files however will just be limited to the latest directory backup that you did.
5. There are free data recovery software available but of course, these have limited features. It is still best to buy those premium software with lots of great features because that means better protection and coverage for your hard drive.
Just a friendly reminder: Do back up your files at every chance that you get.
